Camping

Camping was a feature originally designed in New World when it was focused on the survival crafting genre. It emphasized the dangers of the wilderness and was intended to enhance player interactions. However, as New World pivoted towards becoming an MMORPG, the camping feature naturally evolved into a simpler form, primarily serving as a respawn point.

Despite this shift, I’d like to share some of the design explorations we had for the Camping feature. There were four main activities that players could engage in while camping:

  1. Resting
  2. Crafting / Cooking (Using the existing crafting system)
  3. Repairing & Salvaging items
  4. Sharing food
